Gurmeet Ram Rahim is prisoner number 1997. The Dera Sacha chief who was convicted on Friday on rape charges was moved to prison where he spent a sleepless night according to prison officials.

The Haryana government made it clear that the baba was given no VVIP treatment in jail. In fact he is being treated like any other ordinary prisoner, the government said.

Director general of police (prisons) KP Singh said on Saturday he slept on the floor of his cell in the prison barracks like any ordinary prisoner. He skipped dinner but had a glass of milk before retiring for the night. The dal and roti cooked in the jail kitchen was given to him.
