Ram Rahim convicted: 34 cases registered, 552 arrested by Haryana police

Haryana DGP BS Sandhu told media that 552 people were arrested and investigation into the episode of violence is underway.

Thirty-four cases have been registered and 552 people arrested so far by Haryana police in connection with the violence unleashed by Dera Sacha Sauda followers after Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted by a Special CBI court in a rape case.

Haryana DGP BS Sandhu told media that 552 people were arrested and investigation into the episode of violence is underway.

''Twenty-four vehicles impounded by police in Panchkula. 5 pistols (79 rounds), 2 rifles (52 rounds), AK 47, iron rods, hockey sticks were also recovered,'' Sandhu said.

''Weapons, petrol bombs also recovered in Panchkula. Three petrol bombs and cans seized in Karnal, '' he added. ''Process is underway to sanitize the 'Dera', to see that there are no weapons or any such thing present.''

The DGP further said that there are about 3000-4000 people at Dera Sacha Sauda in Sirsa and they are vacating gradually.

He confirmed that no violent incident has been reported in the last 24 hours.
