Ram Mandir: Amazon Takes Action Following Centre's Notice For Selling Sweets As Ayodhya Ram Mandir 'Prasad'

The sales options of Ram Mandir prasad (offering) have been removed by e-commerce giant Amazon, and action has been initiated against the sellers.

This comes after the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) issued a notice to the firm regarding the scam.

"We have received communication from the CCPA regarding misleading product claims by certain seller(s) and investigating them for violations. In the interim, we are taking appropriate action against such listings as per our policies," said an Amazon spokesperson, reported India Today.

Fake Ram Mandir Prasad Sold On Amazon

• The e-commerce giant Amazon was cracked down upon by the consumer watchdog CCPA.
• The crackdown followed India Today's report on the scam where sellers misrepresented sweets as 'Sri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad.'
• The action was initiated based on a complaint by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).
• The complaint alleged that Amazon engaged in fraudulent trade practices by selling sweets as prasad from Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
• The notice from CCPA demanded a response from Amazon within seven days, warning of potential action under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 if not provided.
• The consumer watchdog observed various food items or sweets on Amazon claiming to be 'Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad,' misleading consumers about the products' authentic characteristics.
• Product descriptions such as 'Sri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad - Raghupati Ghee Ladoo,' 'Ayodhya Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad,' 'Khoya Khobi Ladoo,' 'Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad - Desi Cow Milk Peda' were listed for sale on Amazon.
• The Consumer Protection Act prohibits 'misleading advertisements' that falsely describe a product or service, give a false guarantee, or mislead consumers about the nature, substance, quantity, or quality of the product or service.
