CR Patil Highlights Government Efforts for Rajasthan's Water Self-Sufficiency and Community Involvement

Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil expressed optimism that Rajasthan could become the most water-abundant state under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. He highlighted the collaborative efforts of both central and state governments to achieve water self-sufficiency in Rajasthan. Patil was speaking at the Bhoomi Pujan event for rainwater harvesting projects in the Sanganer Assembly constituency.

Rajasthans Journey to Water Self-Sufficiency

The Karmabhoomi Se Matribhoomi Abhiyan aims to raise awareness about water conservation among the public. This initiative has evolved into a widespread movement, encouraging people to appreciate every drop of water. The campaign is inspired by Prime Minister Modi's "Catch the Rain" concept, which focuses on rainwater collection and groundwater replenishment.

Water Conservation Initiatives

Patil mentioned that to address Rajasthan's water scarcity, the prime minister has introduced the Revised PKC Link Project Integrated ERCP. This project, with a budget of Rs 70,000 crore, will see 90% of its funding covered by the Central government, leaving only 10% for state governments. This financial structure aims to ease the burden on states while ensuring effective implementation.

Additionally, the Yamuna Water Agreement is expected to provide a lasting solution to water issues in the Shekhawati region. This agreement is part of broader efforts to manage water resources efficiently across different areas of Rajasthan. It underscores the government's commitment to resolving regional water challenges.

By 2027-28, Rajasthan plans to construct 45,000 Rain Water Recharge Structures as part of this campaign. These structures will play a crucial role in collecting rainwater and boosting underground water levels. The initiative reflects a strategic approach to sustainable water management in the state.

Efforts like these are crucial for addressing Rajasthan's longstanding water challenges. By leveraging innovative projects and community involvement, there is hope for a more water-secure future for the state. The collaboration between central and state authorities is pivotal in driving these initiatives forward.
