Rajasthan Needs Clean, Women-Safe, Corruption-Free Govt: Diya Kumari

BJP candidate Diya Kumari on Wednesday submitted her nomination. Accompanied by hundreds of party workers in over 50 vehicles, she made her way from the Election Office on Sikar Road to the Collectorate to submit the nomination.

The erstwhile Jaipur royal family member, who has earlier represented Sawai Madhopur as an MLA in the Rajasthan assembly, is the BJP's sitting MP from the Rajsamand parliamentary seat.

Ever since the BJP favoured the royal over the three-time incumbent MLA Narpat Singh Rajvi by denying him the sought-after Vidhyadhar Nagar ticket, the BJP MP from Rajsamand and granddaughter of Maharani Gayatri Devi has been the subject of widespread discussion in the town.

Amid being busy with the campaigns, Diya Kumari took time out and spoke to Oneindia Hindi about the upcoming polls:

Why did Diya Kumari get the ticket from Vidhyadhar Nagar seat?

Only the BJP high command can explain why it has given the ticket to me, but it is a matter of happiness for me as I will get the opportunity to serve the people of Jaipur for the first time. I am the daughter of Jaipur. It feels good to be among loved ones. I express my gratitude to the BJP's state and central leaders for this opportunity.

Why has Congress not yet fielded its candidate for this safe seat of BJP?

All BJP seats in Rajasthan, including Vidyadharnagar, are safe for the BJP. Only Congress can answer why it has not fielded its candidate here. I'm curious to see whom they will eventually choose for this seat.

What are the public's expectations of you?

There's visible enthusiasm among the public and our party workers. Every place I visit, I witness widespread dissatisfaction with the Congress government. The promises and announcements made by them have been left unfulfilled. People are expressing their dismay, even showing me electricity bills that have tripled. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has undertaken commendable work nationally, which is why everyone wants a 'double engine' government in Rajasthan. A clean, women-safe, corruption-free, and development-focused government is what the people are seeking.

The Congress government has come up with numerous poll promises, including providing cylinders at Rs 500. Your views:

First, provide security to women in Rajasthan before anything else. Women in Rajasthan are upset with Congress. They're genuinely discontent. Just look at how Rajasthan has unfortunately gained the title of being the rape capital. Is this a matter of pride? This issue required immediate attention, but the focus seemed to be on safeguarding their positions for the past four and a half years. Now, after six months, they've suddenly awakened and started making many announcements and promises.

Will you go to campaign in other seats as well?

I am committed to going wherever the party assigns me. I have been to various places before as well. My primary focus here will be to boost voter turnout. I implore people not to view polling day merely as a holiday but to actively participate by casting their votes.

Are you in the CM race?

No, it's not true at all. It is the tradition of the party that the parliamentary board takes the decision. My primary dedication lies in my work and the responsibilities assigned by the party earlier, which I continue to focus on. The talk about the CM face is merely people's speculation. This is simply how people like to converse. There's no truth to it.
