Massive Crackdown on Fake Gutkha Business: Rajasthan Police Seize Goods Worth Rs 25 Crore
In a major operation against organised crime, the Rajasthan police raided a factory in Chittorgarh district late Monday night. They seized fake gutka products, equipment and raw materials worth Rs 25 crore. The factory manager and supervisor were arrested on the spot.
In a recent crackdown on counterfeit goods, the Rajasthan Police conducted a successful raid in Chittorgarh district, seizing fake gutkha along with equipment and raw materials. The total face value of the seized items amounts to an astounding Rs 25 crore. This operation was carried out late Monday night by the CID crime branch team against organised crimes in Nimbahera town.

According to ADG Crime Dinesh MN, the police had received credible information about a fraudulent gutkha business being run from this location. He further elaborated that counterfeit gutkha was being packaged at an industrial scale using machinery at this factory. Following these leads, the police were able to make significant arrests.
Arrests and Detentions
The factory's manager Mohit Yadav and supervisor Mohammad Sabir were apprehended on site by Sadar police station team during the raid. In addition to these key arrests, labourers working at the factory have also been detained for further questioning.
Illicit Trade Networks
The arrested individuals disclosed that products manufactured in their facility were not confined to local markets but smuggled into various other regions as well. They revealed having rented a godown (warehouse) in Nimbahera's industrial area for storage purposes before distribution.
Mafia Involvement
Intriguingly, it has emerged that this illegal operation is linked with organized crime syndicates based out of New Delhi. The law enforcement officer stated that teams have already been dispatched to arrest members of this mafia involved in operating the illicit factory.
Seizure Details
The seizure comprises fake products bearing a face value of Rs 8.16 crore and raw materials worth several crores more. These figures underscore not only the scale of this particular operation but also the broader issue of counterfeit goods that continues to plague markets.
In conclusion, this successful raid by Rajasthan Police serves as a stern reminder about the prevalence and scale of organized crime in India. It highlights the urgent need for robust mechanisms to combat not only the production and distribution of fake products but also their root cause - organised crime syndicates. While police forces continue to make strides in disrupting these operations, it is clear that a multi-pronged approach involving legislation, enforcement, and public awareness is needed to effectively tackle this pervasive issue.
