Rajasthan Officer Priyanka Bishnoi Dies After Alleged Botched Surgery in Ahmedabad Hospital

A 33-year-old Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Priyanka Bishnoi, passed away in an Ahmedabad hospital after 13 days of treatment following a surgery that allegedly went wrong, officials reported on Thursday. Bishnoi, a Rajasthan Administrative Service officer from the 2016 batch, had undergone a hysterectomy at a private hospital in Jodhpur on September 5 due to abdominal pain and a diagnosed uterine lump.

Allegations of Medical Negligence

Her condition worsened the day after the surgery, prompting her family to transfer her to an Ahmedabad hospital on September 7. Despite receiving treatment there, she succumbed late Wednesday night. The family has accused the Jodhpur doctors of medical negligence during the procedure, according to officials.

The incident sparked protests, with members of the Bishnoi community gathering outside AIIMS hospital in Jodhpur. They demanded that an FIR be filed against the doctor and hospital involved. Officials explained that police could only proceed with a case after receiving an investigation report from a designated team.

Community Response and Security Measures

Following discussions, an agreement was reached to release Bishnoi's body, ending the protest after about four and a half hours. Her family and community members then took her body to Surpura in Phalodi for her last rites. Due to the community's anger, security was increased at both the Jodhpur hospital and its director's residence.

Priyanka Bishnoi hailed from Bikaner and was serving as a sub-district magistrate in Jodhpur. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhanjan Lal Shamra expressed his condolences, wishing peace for her soul and strength for her family during this difficult time.
