Rajasthan Minister and MP in Dispute Over 'DNA Test' Remark
In a recent development that has stirred controversy, Banswara Member of Parliament (MP) and Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) leader, Rajkumar Roat, has openly criticized Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar's remarks about conducting a DNA test to ascertain Roat's religious identity. This exchange underscores a growing tension between political figures over the representation and identity of the tribal communities in Rajasthan.

Madan Dilawar's contentious statement was made on Friday, suggesting that a DNA test be conducted on Roat to verify if he is the son of a Hindu, following Roat's assertion that he belongs to a tribal community with a belief system distinct from mainstream organized religions, including Hinduism. Dilawar argued that the tribal community forms an integral part of the Hindu community during a programme in Udaipur on Saturday. He expressed his hope that tribal people would not be swayed by certain individuals' opinions.
In retaliation, Roat released a video statement condemning the Education Minister's comments. "You are talking about DNA tests, ancestors; that applies to you. Your mentality needs to be tested. Such language does not suit you; you are holding the post of minister," Roat articulated. He challenged the minister to demonstrate the contributions made towards the educational upliftment of the tribal community in the past six months instead of making derogatory remarks.
Rajkumar Roat further accused Madan Dilawar of making indecent remarks about the tribal community, himself, and his party. He assured that the tribal people would respond appropriately to these statements in due time.
This incident has highlighted the ongoing discourse surrounding the identity and integration of tribal communities within broader religious categories in India. It also raises questions about political leaders' sensitivity and respect towards diverse cultural and religious identities. As this situation develops, it will be interesting to see how it influences the relationship between tribal communities and mainstream political narratives in Rajasthan.
