Raj Thackeray Highlights Ajit Pawar's Avoidance of Caste Politics in Maharashtra

In a recent campaign rally, Raj Thackeray, the chief of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), made notable comments regarding the political landscape in Maharashtra, specifically touching upon the issue of caste politics. Thackeray, whose party is not participating in the Lok Sabha elections but is supporting the ruling coalition comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Ajit Pawar, and Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, took this opportunity to express his views on Ajit Pawar's political conduct.

Ajit Pawar Praised for No Caste Politics

Thackeray acknowledged his differences with Ajit Pawar but commended him for not engaging in caste politics, a practice that has been a point of contention in Maharashtra's political discourse. "I may have had many differences with Ajit Pawar, but I can say one thing: he never indulged in caste politics. Despite being with Sharad Pawar, I have not seen him indulging in caste politics ever," Thackeray remarked, simultaneously lauding Ajit Pawar and subtly criticizing Sharad Pawar.

The MNS chief attributed the inception of caste politics in Maharashtra to the year 1999, coinciding with Sharad Pawar's departure from Congress and the establishment of the Nationalist Congress Party. Thackeray has previously accused Sharad Pawar of utilizing caste dynamics to fragment society.

Addressing urban challenges, Thackeray highlighted the pressing issues of basic amenities in cities and warned of their potential collapse without proper management. He suggested that certain leaders resort to caste politics as a diversion from these critical issues. "I had on numerous occasions urged you to free yourself of caste politics. Think about yourself and your life," he advised the audience.

In a striking statement, Thackeray claimed that mosques were issuing fatwas urging votes for Congress. Counteracting this, he issued a metaphorical 'fatwa' encouraging votes for the candidates from BJP, Ajit Pawar-led NCP, and Shiv Sena.

This rally underscored Thackeray's stance on caste politics and his support for the current ruling coalition in Maharashtra. His comments reflect an appeal to voters to prioritize governance and development issues over caste-based politics in the upcoming elections.
