Maratha Quota Activists Demand Clarification from Raj Thackeray on 'Proxy' Remark

Maratha activists on Monday visited a hotel in Dharashiv, formerly known as Osmanabad, where Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray was staying. They sought clarification on his comments about someone being used as a proxy. The activists claimed Thackeray had mentioned during his Solapur tour that leaders of the Maratha quota agitation were being provoked by someone.

Thackerays Proxy Remark Questioned

Speaking to ABP Majha, an agitator said they arrived at the hotel to peacefully ask Thackeray about his statement and understand his and his party's stance on Maratha reservation. Thackeray later invited the protesters to discuss their issues, but one protester claimed they refused because Thackeray spoke disrespectfully.

Thackeray's Comments on Caste Politics

During his Solapur tour, Thackeray questioned the effectiveness of caste-based reservations in government jobs when more opportunities are being created in the private sector. He emphasised that locals should be prioritised for job opportunities, questioning why caste should play a role in this matter.

Thackeray stated, "My stance is that locals should be given priority in job opportunities. Why should caste be a factor in this?" He added that all communities should realise they are being misled for votes.

The Maratha quota agitation is led by activist Manoj Jarange, who has held several hunger strikes from Antarwali Sarati in Jalna. He demands Kunbi certificates for Marathas to avail quota benefits under the OBC segment.

Political Reactions and Accusations

Vanchit Bhaujan Aghadi chief Prakash Ambedkar criticised Thackeray, suggesting he should be booked under TADA and POTA for making divisive statements. Ambedkar referred to Thackeray's comments about population increases in Thane affecting local resources, hinting at migrants.

"TADA and POTA should be invoked against such a person because this is break up of the nation," Ambedkar said. He argued that such statements divide society and called for UAPA and National Security Act charges against Thackeray.

Thackeray also commented on unconditional support to BJP in Lok Sabha polls, clarifying it was only for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He denied giving assurances regarding state assembly elections.

MNS Election Plans

The MNS has announced candidates for the upcoming assembly polls: former MLA Bala Nandgaonkar from Shivdi Mumbai and Dileep Dhotre from Pandharpur constituencies. Thackeray recently expressed intentions to field candidates in all 288 assembly constituencies in Maharashtra.

During his Marathwada tour starting Monday, Thackeray plans to visit all eight districts in the region. His comments on caste politics have sparked significant reactions and discussions among political circles and activists alike.

Thackeray told Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange that other political parties would not fulfil his demands but would provoke divisions for votes. In Solapur, he remarked on how caste politics is affecting educational environments and urged communities to distance themselves from divisive practices.

"It is evident that these politicians are deceiving us," Thackeray said. "I have been expressing concern about how caste politics is influencing college and school environments." He lamented the spread of this trend, which he believes poisons people's minds.

Thackeray's remarks have stirred controversy, with various political leaders responding strongly. The ongoing debate highlights the complexities of caste-based reservations and their impact on society.
