Raisina Dialogue Serves as a Crossroads for Multi-Dimensional Global Discussions, Says Vikram Misri
The Raisina Dialogue has become a pivotal platform for discussing global issues like regional conflicts and environmental crises, according to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Speaking at the event themed on the Kalchakra wheel of time, Misri highlighted the coexistence of economic nationalism and globalisation. He used the metaphor of the arc of history to illustrate how it can change direction unexpectedly.

Misri emphasised the importance of shedding the arrogance of certainty when discussing global peace and sustainability. He noted that the Raisina Dialogue, which began in 2016, has grown significantly in scale and participation. The current edition features 125 sessions over three days, with representatives from 131 countries, compared to 35 in its inaugural year.
Global Public Square for Diverse Discussions
The Raisina Dialogue serves as a global public square for diverse discussions, bringing together a wide range of opinions. Misri described it as a crossroads for free-flowing, multi-dimensional conversations. The event addresses various topics, including socio-cultural realignments, trade disruptions, and supply chain resilience.
Misri noted that the international order is often likened to a jungle where rules are frequently challenged. He stressed the importance of platforms like the Raisina Dialogue for fostering dialogue and understanding. The event's agenda reflects a world where economic nationalism and globalisation coexist, with growing scepticism towards multilateral institutions.
Geopolitics and Economic Interactions
Jonathan Powell, National Security Adviser for the UK, participated in a panel discussion titled "Compete and Cooperate: Securing the Future." Powell remarked that geopolitics has returned with significant challenges. He highlighted ongoing issues in Europe, including invasions and efforts by US President Donald Trump to initiate a peace process in Ukraine.
Powell expressed hope for peace in Ukraine, noting that both President Trump and the Ukrainian government are eager for a ceasefire. He emphasised that geopolitics does not preclude hope for justice and lasting peace. Powell also discussed how geoeconomics is closely linked to geopolitics, with economic issues potentially leading to conflict or success.
In a podcast interview, Prime Minister Modi expressed optimism about relations with China, highlighting the potential for economic collaboration between India and China. Powell suggested that positive economic interactions could influence geopolitical dynamics positively.
The Raisina Dialogue continues to shape discussions on key global issues by providing a platform for diverse perspectives. As it evolves, it remains an essential venue for addressing challenges such as regional conflicts, environmental crises, and socio-economic shifts.
