Rain Likely In Delhi-NCR In The Next Few Hours, Light Relief From Heatwave As IMD Issues Yellow Alert

After days of intense heat, residents of Delhi may finally get some relief as light rain is expected on Monday. The city has been experiencing severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures soaring above 40°C in recent days.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert, indicating the possibility of light rain along with thunderstorms.

IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Rain and Thunderstorms

According to the IMD, several parts of Delhi are likely to witness very light to light rainfall. These showers may be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
Wind speeds are expected to range between 30-50 kmph, with gusts possibly reaching up to 60 kmph in some areas.

The rainfall is likely to affect multiple parts of the city, including South, Central, East, and North Delhi regions.

Temperatures Still High, But Change Expected

Despite the expected rainfall, temperatures on Monday are likely to remain high, ranging between 43°C and 45°C.

However, weather conditions are expected to gradually improve from Tuesday onwards, bringing some relief from the ongoing heatwave.

Gradual Drop in Temperature Expected

The IMD has predicted a noticeable drop in temperatures over the next few days:

• Tuesday: Around 40-42°C
• Wednesday: Around 39-41°C

Later in the week: Temperatures may fall further, possibly close to 37°C
Cloudy skies and continued rainfall are expected to help cool down the city.

Cloudy Weather to Continue Through the Week

An IMD official stated that cloud cover is likely to persist until Thursday. This sustained cloudiness, along with intermittent rain, will play a key role in reducing temperatures across Delhi.

Rain Forecast for North India

The weather department has also predicted thunderstorms and rainfall across parts of North India, including Delhi, between April 27 and April 30.

States like Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh are also expected to witness similar weather conditions, with gusty winds and light to moderate rainfall.

Heatwave Conditions Across India

While Delhi may see some relief, many parts of the country continue to face extreme heat. According to the IMD, maximum temperatures across most regions are currently between 40°C and 46°C.

However, areas like the western Himalayan region and parts of northeast India are experiencing relatively lower temperatures, staying below 36°C.

Heatwave Warnings in Several States

The IMD has also issued warnings for heatwave conditions in multiple states, including:

• Jammu and Kashmir
• Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh
• Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan
• Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Gujarat

Some areas have even been placed under severe heatwave alerts.

Relief on the Horizon

Although the heatwave has made conditions difficult in Delhi and other regions, the expected rainfall and cloud cover offer hope for relief.

As weather patterns begin to shift, residents can look forward to slightly cooler days ahead, even if the summer heat is far from over.
