Railways plan to launch smart train coaches, announcement likely in budget

New Delhi, Feb 15: With an aim to provide comfort like home while traveling in train, the railways is mulling to launch all-new `smart coaches'. The initiative is likely to be announced in the Railway budget.

The smart coaches will be equipped with GPS-based wake up alarm and LED-based reservation charts and berth indicators. Wi-Fi facility will also be provided in the coaches, reported the Times of India.

Passengers will also enjoy audio announcements in the day time and also interactive voice-based assistance from the train conductor.
Vending machine for water, coffee, tea and other drinks will also be installed in the coaches.

Laptop mobile phone charging points for each passenger, automatic doors and microprocessor-based AC units will also be fitted in these smart coaches.

It will also have bio-toilets, automatic soap dispensers and hand dryers. CCTV surveillance system and automatic fire and smoke detection and suppression systems will also be attached with these coaches.
