Railways Brings Relief to Passengers, Reservation Charts to Be Released 10 Hours Early

Indian Railways has announced a passenger-friendly change in its reservation system, revising the timing of the first reservation chart to give travellers earlier clarity on their ticket status.

Under the new rule, passengers will now be able to check confirmation and waiting list positions up to 10 hours before a train's departure, a move aimed at reducing last-minute anxiety and improving journey planning.

Earlier, the first reservation chart was prepared only four hours before departure, often leaving passengers uncertain until the final moments. The revised schedule is expected to bring much-needed relief, particularly for those travelling long distances or making connecting arrangements.

Revised reservation chart timings explained

As per the updated guidelines, chart preparation timings will now vary based on a train's departure schedule.

For trains departing between 5.00 am and 2.00 pm, the first reservation chart will be prepared by 8.00 pm on the previous day.

For trains departing between 2.01 pm and 11.59 pm, as well as those leaving between 12.00 midnight and 5.00 am, the first reservation chart will be prepared 10 hours before departure.

This change ensures that passengers receive clearer and more timely information about their reservation status, allowing them to plan better.

A move aimed at easing passenger stress

Railway officials said the revision was introduced to reduce last-minute stress, especially for passengers travelling from remote areas to board long-distance trains. Early chart preparation will help travellers make informed decisions regarding accommodation, onward travel and alternative plans if their tickets remain unconfirmed.

Speaking to a media portal, officials from the Railway Ministry said the updated system would improve the overall travel experience by offering certainty well before the journey begins. They also added that preparing the chart in advance would allow passengers to plan their trips more smoothly.

Implementation across all railway zones

The Railway Board has issued instructions to all zonal divisions to implement the revised chart preparation schedule with immediate effect. Officials expect the change to improve transparency, reduce passenger anxiety and enhance travel planning for millions of rail users across the country.

With this update, Indian Railways aims to make train travel more predictable and passenger-friendly, offering relief to those who have long struggled with last-minute uncertainty over ticket confirmations.
