Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Calls for Enhanced Safety and Maintenance to Modernise Railways
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has called for a tripling of efforts in safety, maintenance, quality, and training to modernise railway infrastructure. This initiative aims to provide commuters with a world-class experience. During the 69th Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar ceremony, Vaishnaw highlighted the importance of focusing on maintenance, innovation, industry collaborations, enhanced inspection systems, and improved training for officers and technicians.

Vaishnaw stressed the need for incorporating feedback from grassroots levels to enhance the railway system. The event was attended by Chairman & CEO of Railway Board Satish Kumar, members of the Railway Board, and General Managers from various Railway Zones and Production Units. The awards recognised 101 railway officials and 22 shields were presented to best-performing zones in different categories.
Focus on Electrification and Safety
The Railway Minister noted significant progress in electrification efforts, aiming for 100% electrification by 2025. Projects like Vande Bharat, Namo Bharat, and freight corridors are advancing rapidly. The Kavach safety system has been implemented extensively to enhance safety measures across the network.
Vaishnaw also highlighted achievements in station redevelopment and a notable reduction in consequential accidents from 345 to 90. The recruitment process has been efficient and complaint-free, successfully filling 1.5 lakh positions. Cleanliness initiatives have received praise from various quarters, including opposition leaders.
Recognition of Excellence
The Ati Vishisht Rail Puraskar is an annual award conferred by the Railways to its employees. These awards are divided into two categories: individual awards and shields for the best-performing Railway Zones. This recognition aims to motivate employees to strive for excellence in their respective fields.
A new Super App is set to enhance passenger experience significantly. This app is expected to streamline various services for commuters, making travel more convenient and efficient. The minister expressed optimism about the positive impact this app will have on passengers' journeys.
The Railway Board's press statement highlighted transformative progress over the past decade. Rapid construction projects like the Kashmir to Kanyakumari rail link and pending North-East connectivity initiatives have been completed at a swift pace.
The focus on modernising infrastructure through enhanced safety measures, maintenance practices, and innovative solutions reflects the Railways' commitment to providing a superior travel experience. These efforts aim to ensure that India's railway system meets global standards while addressing local needs effectively.
