Rahul's pet bills may not get a green signal
New Delhi, March 1: How could something that did not happen in the past 10 years, will happen in just 6 weeks before the elections? Rahul Gandhi came late into the scene with his pet bills, which could well have been implemented in the last UPA tenure.
According to sources now, the UPA government is not likely to invoke the emergency powers of the Constitution for announcing ordinances ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, which are due by May. The Congress Core group, in a meeting late evening, decided not to pass the ordinance of anti-graft bills that are being pushed by Rahul Gandhi.
Sources also say that the government is unsure whether President Pranab Mukherjee will flag green on the ordinances. Experts believe that it would be a massive backlash if the bills were pushed through the ordinances as the government may then have to leave the fate of the bills on the next government.
It is, in fact, a tad bit late on the part of the UPA government to start acting on the Bill, especially when they got a scope to pass them in the last session of the Parliament. Two of the most important Bills, Rights of citizens to Timebound Delivery of Goods and Services and Redressal of Grievances Bill were the two bills that had to be passed and were an important part of the plan set in motion by Rahul Gandhi.
