Rahul Gandhi has no idea of GST: Arun Jaitley

Arun Jaitley on Saturday said that Rahul Gandhi, who has been attacking him over the alleged failure of the GST, had "no idea" of the taxation scheme.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday said that Rahul Gandhi, who has been attacking him over the alleged failure of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), had "no idea" of the taxation scheme.

Referring to Gandhi's comments last month where he had termed the Goods Service and Tax reform as Gabbar Singh Tax, Jaitley said "He (Rahul Gandhi) doesn't have any knowledge about the subject and the Congress was also a party to the decision."

"The Gabbar Singh Tax only meant that the poor who sweats sees his money being stolen from him," Gandhi had said.

"Note ban was taken up for a few reasons. When the Congress-led UPA was in power for ten years, it had not fought against black money. The party never took big steps against corruption," Jaitley said while addressing the media in Gandhinagar.

FM Jaitley said that the government is also taking up the issue of bringing transparency in political funding seriously.

"In my budget speech this year, I said that in order to legitimise political funding, we also need to look at issuing electoral bonds," the finance minister said to media.

While talking about Gujarat and its development under the BJP, Jaitley said that socio-economic development is the only agenda of the Gujarat unit of the party.

In 2012 Gujarat gave leadership to the country and new history was written. The leadership given by Gujarat is leading the entire country and making India's image better also at global level. The direction of agenda of development that Gujarat gave is now being displayed to the world, he said

Jaitley is currently in Gujarat for a day and will meet different party leaders in Ahmedabad. He will focus on the campaign for the polls and will talk to the spokespersons of the party."
