Rahul Gandhi Updates Twitter Bio After Restoration Of Lok Sabha Membership

In a significant move, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has revamped his Twitter bio to reflect his reinstated status as a 'Member of Parliament', following the restoration of his Lok Sabha membership. Notably, Gandhi had previously labeled himself as a "Dis'Qualified MP" after his suspension from the lower house due to a criminal defamation case related to his 'Modi' surname comments.

His updated Twitter bio now succinctly states, "This is the official account of Rahul Gandhi. Member of the Indian National Congress. Member of Parliament."

The recent alteration comes in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision on Friday to suspend Gandhi's conviction in the case. In its ruling, the apex court acknowledged that while the language of Gandhi's remarks wasn't commendable, his disqualification from parliament could have implications for his constituents.

Originally, a trial court had handed down a two-year prison sentence to Gandhi, a penalty that would have resulted in his disqualification as a Member of Parliament. However, the Supreme Court pointed out that if the sentence had been a mere day shorter, he would have retained his MP status.

As the no-confidence motion debate is scheduled to take place in the Lok Sabha tomorrow, the Congress has expressed its intention to have Gandhi play a significant role as a speaker.

Today, Gandhi received a warm welcome from Congress members and other opposition MPs belonging to the INDIA bloc upon his arrival in the parliament. Arriving at the Parliament House complex around noon, he paid his respects at the Mahatma Gandhi statue before proceeding with his parliamentary duties.
