Rahul Gandhi Targets PM Modi, Says Prime Minister Surrendered After Donald Trump's 'Ceasefire' Call
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, during party's Bhopal convention, criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that he "surrendered" following a call from former US President Donald Trump regarding the ceasefire. Gandhi mocked the BJP-RSS, claiming they panic under pressure. He said, "Donald Trump called from there and said - Narender.. surrender. Here, Narendra Modi followed Trump's gesture by saying 'Yes Sir'."
Notably, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has already clarified that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor was achieved without any third-party intervention. The agreement to halt hostilities was reached through direct communication between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries.

Still, Rahul Gandhi drew a comparison with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's decisive actions during the 1971 crisis. He recalled her firm stance when faced with America's Seventh Fleet, asserting she would do what needed to be done. He contrasted this with what he described as BJP-RSS's tendency to "surrender."
"There was a time in 1971 when America's Seventh Fleet had come, but Indira Gandhi ji had said - I will do what I have to do," he stated. Gandhi emphasised that Congress leaders like Gandhiji, Nehruji, and Sardar Patelji were fighters against superpowers.
MEA's Clarification
The MEA clarified that discussions between India and the US occurred from May 7 to May 10 regarding the evolving military situation during Operation Sindoor. However, tariffs were not part of these conversations. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed India's opposition to any external involvement in the ceasefire decision.
The Ministry reiterated that no external party influenced the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. The decision was made solely through direct communication between their respective DGMOs.
