Rahul Gandhi Seeks Court's No Objection To Secure Fresh Passport

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi approached Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court today, filing a plea to seek the court's no objection for the issuance of a fresh ordinary passport in his name. The move comes after he ceased to hold the position of Member of Parliament earlier this year and subsequently surrendered his diplomatic passport.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vaibhav Mehta sought the response of BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, the complainant in the National Herald case, to Gandhi's application and posted the matter for hearing on Wednesday.

Rahul Gandhi Seeks Courts No Objection for Fresh Ordinary Passport Application

"The applicant ceased to be a Member of Parliament in March 2023 and as such he surrendered his diplomatic passport and is applying for a fresh ordinary passport... By way of the present application, the applicant is seeking permission and no objection from this Court for issuance of fresh ordinary passport to him," the application said.

By submitting the plea to the Rouse Avenue Court, Rahul Gandhi is seeking the court's no objection certificate (NOC) as part of the formalities for acquiring a new ordinary passport. The NOC from the court holds significance in such cases, ensuring that there are no legal impediments or objections to the issuance of the passport.

In March of this year, Rahul Gandhi stepped down as a Member of Parliament, necessitating the surrender of his diplomatic passport. Now, he has initiated the process of applying for a fresh ordinary passport, which requires the court's approval.

The court had granted bail to Gandhi and others in the case.
