Black flags were waved and stones hurled at Rahul Gandhi's car in Banaskantha district in Gujarat, where the Congress vice president visited on Friday to meet the people in the flood-affected area.

Reports say that some cars in Rahul's convoy were also damaged as a mob raised slogans to oppose him. Rahul was not injured in the attack, however, some SPG guards were injured.

Rahul's car's window panes were smashed
Congress leader Randeep Surjewala held the BJP responsible for it and termed the entire incident as "disgusting and disgraceful". Surjewala also posted pictures of Rahul's car with window panes shattered and glass pieces strewn across the seats.

Rahul was unhurt
Surjewala said that violence and physical attack have become BJP's culture, adding that such attacks have made Congress even more determined to continue raising their voice.
"BJP goons attack Cong VP Rahulji's car in Lal Chowk, Dhanera, Banaskanta, Gujarat. Disgusting and disgraceful...Violence is the first refuge of cowards. Godse culture thrives under BJP," he tweeted.

Congress accused BJP for the attack
Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi condemned the incident and said political opponents are not being allowed to practice democratic politics.
"Rahul Gandhi was attacked with cement bricks by BJP goons, SPG with him suffered minor injuries; should be condemned unequivocally," he told media.

Attack on Rahul's car raises questions
"Rahulji is an SPG protectee. An attack under Gujarat BJP Govt's watch reflects not only serious lapse but tacit complicity. Will PM answer?" Surjewala tweeted.
Rahul had earlier said, "Aane do aane do, yeh kale jhande yahan lagane do, ghabraye hue yeh log, koi farak nahi padta humein (Let them come, let them wave black flags, they are terrified. It doesnt affect me).
The Gujarat government has declared both Banaskantha and Patan districts as 'disaster-affected areas' following the floods due to torrential rains last week. The announcement was made by the state Revenue Department through a gazette notification issued on Tuesday.
