Rahul Gandhi Engages in First District Development Meeting as Raebareli MP, Inaugurates Key Projects

Rahul Gandhi, a Congress leader, recently engaged in various activities in his parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh. He attended a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting, inaugurated a beautification project, and laid the foundation for road construction. This marked his first significant interaction with district officials and local representatives since becoming the Raebareli MP earlier this year.

Rahul Gandhis First District Meeting in Raebareli

During his visit, Rahul Gandhi inaugurated a beautification project at the Degree College intersection in Raebareli. He also laid the foundation stone for road construction projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. These initiatives aim to improve infrastructure and connectivity in the region.

Criticism and Political Context

However, Rahul's visit was not without criticism. Dinesh Pratap Singh, Uttar Pradesh Horticulture Minister and BJP MLC, accused Rahul and former Raebareli MP Sonia Gandhi of neglecting their constituencies. Singh highlighted that Rahul rarely stays overnight in Raebareli, suggesting a lack of genuine representation. A poster presented by Singh claimed that Rahul has spent only about five hours in Raebareli over the past six months.

Singh further alleged that during Congress rule, Raebareli experienced minimal development. He pointed out that Sonia Gandhi did not adopt any village under the MP Model Village Scheme since 2019, despite receiving multiple reminders from the District Magistrate. Singh contrasted this with the development efforts under the Modi and Yogi administrations.

Development Initiatives

In response to these criticisms, Singh highlighted recent projects initiated by the BJP government in Raebareli. Over the past two years, 182 overhead water tanks have been constructed, providing clean water to local households. This is a significant increase compared to previous governments, which he claimed built fewer than ten tanks over a decade.

Singh also detailed infrastructure developments in Raebareli. A network of four-lane roads and expressways is currently under construction. In the last two years alone, Rs 6,280 crore has been allocated for road development in Raebareli. Key projects include the Raebareli-Ayodhya four-lane road costing Rs 1,440 crore and the Raebareli-Prayagraj four-lane road at Rs 3,200 crore.

DISHA Meeting Highlights

The DISHA meeting chaired by Rahul Gandhi reviewed various central schemes like MGNREGA and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Congress leader and Amethi MP Kishori Lal Sharma was also present at this meeting. According to Sharma, central schemes from 52 departments were evaluated with representatives from all parties and block heads attending.

The Union Ministry for Rural Development established DISHAs to enhance coordination among members of Parliament, state legislatures, and local governments. This meeting was Rahul's first with local officials since becoming an MP, emphasizing his commitment to addressing regional issues.

Political Landscape

In recent elections, Rahul Gandhi defeated Dinesh Pratap Singh by over 3.90 lakh votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. In 2019, Sonia Gandhi secured victory with over 1.67 lakh votes against Singh, who was previously a Congress member. Despite these victories, Singh criticized the Gandhis for their alleged lack of attention to Raebareli's development needs.

Rahul Gandhi did not interact with media during his visit but later expressed his sentiments on Facebook in Hindi: "No matter how old my relationship with Raebareli is, it deepens every time I visit the place." He acknowledged the love from locals and their willingness to share problems with him.

Rahul Gandhi reiterated his dedication to solving issues through DISHA meetings and other initiatives. Late in the afternoon after his engagements in Raebareli, he departed for Lucknow.
