Rahul Gandhi Forced to Stay Overnight in Shahdol After Helicopter Fails to Take Off
In a surprising turn of events, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was compelled to extend his stay in Shahdol district, Madhya Pradesh, due to adverse weather conditions preventing his helicopter from taking off. This incident occurred amidst his campaign trail for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The local Congress party functionary confirmed this development on Monday, highlighting the unforeseen challenge faced by Gandhi during his electoral campaign.

Gandhi, who is vigorously campaigning for his party in Madhya Pradesh, had addressed rallies in Mandla and Shahdol earlier that day. Both constituencies are gearing up for the polls scheduled on April 26. Initially planned to depart for Jabalpur and subsequently to Delhi, the change in weather disrupted his travel plans. Jitu Patwari, the Madhya Pradesh Congress chief, disclosed that Gandhi would now be spending the night in a Shahdol hotel and is expected to leave at 6 am on Tuesday.
However, this incident took a political twist when former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan offered a different narrative. Chouhan suggested that the real issue was not the weather but rather a fuel shortage that grounded Gandhi's helicopter. He made these remarks while addressing a gathering in Chawalpani under the Chhindwara Lok Sabha seat.
"Rahul Gandhi came to Shahdol today but his helicopter couldn't take off because of a shortage of fuel. If the fuel of the Congress has run out, how will there be fuel for Rahul's helicopter?" Chouhan remarked, drawing an analogy between the helicopter's predicament and the current state of the Congress party. He further criticized Gandhi's leadership capabilities and made a reference to Sonia Gandhi's efforts to bolster her son's political career.
Additionally, Chouhan commented on Nakul Nath's political journey. Nath, the son of former Chief Minister Kamal Nath and the incumbent Congress MP from Chhindwara, is contesting against BJP's Vivek Bunty Sahu. It is noteworthy that Chhindwara was the only constituency in Madhya Pradesh that the BJP could not secure in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The incident has sparked a blend of concern and political banter, reflecting the intense rivalry between the Congress and BJP as they vie for supremacy in the upcoming elections. With both parties pulling no punches, the electoral battle in Madhya Pradesh is set to be closely watched.
