Rahul Gandhi meets Punjab Congress dist chiefs over leadership issue
New Delhi, Oct 13: Amidst ongoing consultations on the issue of the leadership of Punjab Congress, party Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday met district presidents from the state unit to ascertain their views on the matter.
Rahul will meet all 27 Punjab Pradesh Congress district presidents before a decision is taken on any restructuring of the state unit ahead of the 2017 Assembly elections.
Some Punjab MLAs also met Rahul today along with the district chiefs as they shared with him their assessment of the ground situation in the state as well as the rise of AAP.
Sources said most leaders called for unity within the state organisation with many favouring handing over of its leadership to former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, who has sought the replacement of incumbent state unit chief Partap Singh Bajwa.
After Rahul consults the district party chiefs from Punjab, Congress President Sonia Gandhi will take a final call on the restructuring.
