Rahul Gandhi may take over as Congress president on October 30
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's elevation as the party chief is likely to be announced on October 26. According to media reports, Rahul may take over the party's reins from his mother Sonia Gandhi on October 30.
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) will likely be holding a meeting on 24 October where the decks will probably be cleared for Rahul's elevation.
The Congress is currently in the process of a major structural rejig with its organisational elections just around the corner.
Following Rahul's elevation, a massive overhaul of the Congress leadership is also likely to take place. He will in all probability bring in younger leaders to rejuvenate the party which has been facing one electoral rout after another over the last few years at the hands of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Congress will see new faces take over as chiefs of state units, central panels, and other party units after Rahul takes charge, sources added.
