Rahul Gandhi In US Says India's Election Commission Is Compromised, Gives Example Of Maharashtra Polls

Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has again stirred a controversy on his overseas tour. This time, addressing the Indian diaspora in Boston, United States, Rahul Gandhi criticised the Election Commission of India (ECI), tagging it as a compromised body. Rahul Gandhi put a question mark on the integrity of the Election Commission, citing the Maharashtra Assembly Election results.

He said more than 65 lakh new voters were added to the voters' list in just two hours, which was impossible. How can 65 lakh people apply for addition and that too in just two hours, and their names were approved. Something is seriously wrong with the system.

"It's very clear to us that the Election Commission is compromised, there is something very wrong with the system,' Rahul Gandhi said.

"More people voted in Maharashtra than the total number of people in Maharashtra, and this is a fact... the Election Commission gave us a figure in the evening around 5:30 p.m., and in two hours around 7:30 p.m., 65 lakh voters had voted, which is physically impossible," Congress MP claimed.

Notably, such claims were also raised by the Opposition earlier also, which were junked by the Election Commission officials.

BJP HITS BACK

Reacting to Rahul Gandhi's latest attack at the Election Commission of India (ECI), ruling BJP responded with a scathing attack. Saffron party spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said "Anti Democracy, Anti India Rahul Gandhi who could not win the trust of Indian electorate begins to question Indian democratic process on a foreign soil. Why does Rahul always defame India on a foreign soil? An agent of George Soros who is Fighting Indian state - that's what Rahul Gandhi's intent today is!"
