Rahul Gandhi Critiques Lack Of Bahujan Representation In Bollywood, Beauty Pageants, Media Houses

During a Samvidhan Samman Sammelan, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi highlighted the absence of Dalit, tribal, or OBC winners in the Miss India pageant.

He emphasised the need for a nationwide caste census to ensure representation. Gandhi stated, "I have checked the list of Miss India, which did not have any Dalit, Adivasi tribal or OBC women."

Call for Nationwide Caste Census

Gandhi argued that without the involvement of 90 per cent of its population, India cannot function effectively.

He criticised the mainstream media for not showcasing individuals from these communities.

"Some will talk about cricket or Bollywood. No one will show the cobbler or plumber. Even top anchors in the media are not from the 90 per cent," he remarked.

The former Congress chief questioned how India could be considered a superpower when a significant portion of its population remains unrepresented.

"They will say Modiji embraced someone and we have become superpower. How have we become superpower when 90 per cent people has no participation?" he asked.

Representation in Various Sectors

Gandhi also pointed out the lack of representation in various sectors such as institutions, corporates, and Bollywood.

He stressed the importance of knowing how many individuals from these communities are present in these fields.

"We want to know how many in institutions, corporates, Bollywood, Miss India are from the 90%," he said.

The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha anticipated criticism from the BJP, suggesting they might accuse him of trying to divide the country with his demand for a caste census.

However, he clarified that his intention was to highlight the lack of participation from these communities.

"I am only saying that 90 per cent did not have "bhaagidari" and this should be checked," he explained.

Gandhi's remarks underscore his call for greater inclusivity and representation across all sectors in India.

By advocating for a caste census, he aims to address disparities and ensure that every community has a voice.
