Rahul Gandhi Films Cong MP Kalyan Banerjee's Mimicry Of Jagdeep Dhankar; BJP Reacts Strongly

A Trinamool MP today mimicked Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar during an opposition protest in parliament, causing laughter among other members, including Rahul Gandhi, who captured videos on their mobile phones.

Initially seen as a moment of comic relief amid the suspension of 49 MPs, the situation escalated when Vice President Dhankhar, also the Rajya Sabha chairperson, condemned the mimicry as "shameful and unacceptable."

Kalyan Banerjee from Trinamool Congress, one of the 141 opposition MPs suspended from parliament, was recorded in a video mimicking the Vice President on the steps outside the new Parliament building's "Makar Dwar."

This impromptu act sparked laughter among MPs, with videos showing Rahul Gandhi recording Banerjee mimicking Dhankar.

In the video, Kalyan Banerjee can be heard saying, "My spine is so straight, I'm so tall," as he enacted a version of the Rajya Sabha proceedings during a mock parliament by protesting MPs.

Jagdeep Dhankhar denounced the incident as "ridiculous and unacceptable."

Upon the House's reconvening, Dhankhar, referring to Rahul Gandhi, criticized the act, stating, "Mimicry of the Chairman, mimicry of Speaker. How ridiculous, how shameful, how unacceptable."

The BJP shared the video, condemning both Banerjee and Gandhi for mocking the vice president. The BJP highlighted this behavior as the reason behind the suspension of opposition MPs.

Meanwhile, opposition MPs sought a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah concerning the security breach. Dhankhar previously labeled the MPs' act as an "absolute transgression" of rules.

The Delhi police disclosed that the parliament security breach was meticulously planned over months by a group of six individuals. Their motive was to draw attention to issues like unemployment, farmers' plight, and Manipur's situation.

Following the breach, Parliament enforced stricter security measures, temporarily banning visitors and restricting non-essential personnel, including the media.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his first comments on the security breach, termed the incident "very serious." He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation rather than debate to address the situation.
