Rahul Gandhi Supports UP Cobbler with Sewing Machine Donation
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, made a significant gesture by gifting a sewing machine to cobbler Ram Chet. This act followed Gandhi's brief visit to Chet's shop in Sultanpur on Friday. The Congress leader's visit and subsequent gift were confirmed by a party spokesperson.

During his visit, Gandhi spent about 30 minutes with Chet, discussing the challenges faced in his work. UP Congress spokesperson Manish Hindvi noted that Gandhi's gesture sends a message of solidarity with the poor and oppressed. "By giving the modern machine to the cobbler, Rahul Gandhi ji has sent a message to the entire country and society that he stands with the poor and the oppressed," he said.
Rahul Gandhi's Support for Cobblers
On Saturday, UP Congress spokesperson Anshu Awasthi shared on X in Hindi that Gandhi had sent a sewing machine to Chet. "Jannayak leader of the people, yesterday had met a cobbler family and understood the pain of their work and today Shri @RahulGandhi has sent them a sewing machine which is used in cobbling work so that they can make their future work easier. We are proud of our leader, Jannayak Rahul Gandhi," Awasthi posted.
Chet expressed his gratitude for the unexpected visit and gift from Gandhi. "He said he will see what he can do for me," Chet recalled. The cobbler was delighted to receive such a valuable tool so quickly. "I am very happy that I got such a big thing so soon," he said.
Impact of the Sewing Machine
The new sewing machine is expected to significantly improve Chet's productivity. Previously, he could only make one or two pairs of shoes daily. With the new machine, he anticipates producing 8-10 pairs each day. Additionally, Chet mentioned that he would now be able to stitch school bags, purses, and other accessories.
When asked about electricity supply for the machine, Chet explained that his son has access to electricity. "My son gets electricity supply. I will keep the machine at his place and do the sewing work," he said.
Gandhi's visit to Sultanpur was initially to appear in court regarding a 2018 defamation case filed by local BJP leader Vijay Mishra. Mishra accused Gandhi of making objectionable comments against Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a press conference in Bengaluru.
Chet shared more details about Gandhi's visit, stating that the leader sat in his shop and asked about his work process. "I told him that I get the shoes stitched from Kurebhar and get them fitted here... Seeing my poverty, he Gandhi said he will help me," Chet said.
The UP Congress also highlighted Gandhi's empathetic approach in another post on X in Hindi. "Jannayak Rahul Gandhi ji met cobbler Ram Chet ji in Sultanpur yesterday and understood the intricacies of his work. Now a shoe stitching machine has been sent to him, which will make it easier for Ram Chet ji to stitch shoes. This is your Rahul, the Rahul of the people," they posted.
This act of kindness by Rahul Gandhi underscores his commitment to understanding and addressing the struggles faced by ordinary people. By providing practical support like this sewing machine, he aims to make a tangible difference in their lives.
