Bengaluru: 'Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami assaulted, raped 48-year-old singer'

Bengaluru, Oct 23:The CBI has filed charge-sheet against Ramachandrapura Mutt pontiff Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami. In its report, the topmost investigating agency of the country said that Swami had assaulted and later raped a 48-year-old Ramakatha singer.

The New Indian Express which has a copy of the charge-sheet says that Swami raped the victim between June 2011 and June 26, 2014. He used to call Ramakatha singer on one pretext or the others to his room and sexually assaulted her.

The CBI has filled chargesheet against Swamy under Sections 376 (2)(f) and 376 (2)(n) and 508 of the IPC.

The Charge-sheet says that Swami whose original name is Harish Sharma used to take along the victim to various religious functions across the country.

Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami also threatened the victim whenever she raised her voice against his misdemeanour. How swami coerced her to compromise, the charge-sheet further states that he used to instil fear to singer. You would be cursed by Lord Rama if you will say no to me, Swami used to say.

Reportedly, the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has also confirmed that 48-year-old Ramakatha singer was raped.
