R K Nagar bypoll to be countermanded after IT raid
The chances of the R K Nagar by-polls being countermanded are very high after the Central Board of Direct Taxes submitted its report to the Election Commission of India. The report was submitted after raids were conducted in Tamil Nadu in which it was found that an obscene amount of Rs 85 crore had been pumped in to buy the voters in the high profile R K Nagar constituency which was to poll on April 12.
After the report was submitted special electoral officer Vikram Batra left for Delhi to hold discussions on the further course of action. Sources tell OneIndia that the ECI has taken a very serious view of the situation and with proof of buying voters being submitted there is every likelihood that the elections may be countermanded.
The R K Nagar by-elections announced following the death of J Jayalalithaa. She held the constituency and the battle for the same has become a prestige one between the two factions of the AIADMK which has split into the Sasikala and O Panneerselvam groups.
