PWP Voices Concerns as Sena UBT Announces Candidates for Key Assembly Seats in Maharashtra

The Peasants and Workers Party (PWP), a smaller faction within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra, expressed dissatisfaction on Wednesday. This came after the Shiv Sena UBT declared candidates for the Uran, Sangola, and Loha assembly seats. Jayant Patil, leader of the PWP, had previously claimed these constituencies for his party.

PWP Discontent Over Sena UBT Candidate Choices

Patil mentioned plans to discuss the issue with Sharad Pawar, chief of the NCP-SP. He also visited Sangola on the same day. The PWP has requested a total of six seats from the MVA: Panvel, Uran, Pen, Alibaug, Sangola, and Loha. Currently, a PWP MLA represents the Loha seat.

Seat Allocation and Candidate Announcements

The Shiv Sena UBT has nominated Eknath Pawar for Loha, Deepak Salunkhe Patil for Sangola, and Manohar Bhoir for Uran. This decision has caused friction within the alliance as these seats were sought by the PWP. The MVA's smaller allies played a crucial role in securing narrow victories in several Lok Sabha seats.

Abu Azmi, president of the Samajwadi Party in Maharashtra and another ally, stated that he has not received any updates regarding seat-sharing discussions. This highlights ongoing communication issues within the alliance.

Current Status of Seat-Sharing Talks

After prolonged negotiations, the Maha Vikas Aghadi announced that Congress, NCP SP, and Shiv Sena UBT would each contest 85 seats. Discussions are still ongoing for the remaining 33 seats out of a total of 288. The allocation process remains a point of contention among alliance members.

The PWP's concerns underscore the complexities involved in coalition politics. Smaller parties often feel sidelined during seat allocations despite their contributions to electoral successes. As talks continue, it remains to be seen how these issues will be resolved within the MVA framework.
