Punjab unrest: SIT to probe foreign link
Chandigarh, Oct 22: A special investigating team will probe the foreign angle to the Punjab unrest in a bid to get a better picture of the conspiracy.
The Punjab police which had got hold of the call transcripts which were reported by OneIndia (Punjab unrest: This tapped conversation makes the conspiracy clear) are sure that there is a larger conspiracy behind the unrest and hence needs a specialized probe. There have been widespread protests in Punjab following the burning of Sikh scriptures which has hurt the sentiment of the people.
Punjab police officials say that it is clear from the transcripts that the accused persons were discussing a plot in exchange for money. There are various factors behind the conspiracy and while one is to destablise the state the other is to ensure that militancy is revived in the state.
Special investigating team to probe foreign link
A special investigating team has been set up by the Punjab police to probe in detail the foreign angle behind the unrest. The team would go into the details of the call records and also seek the help of the central intelligence bureau in gathering more details.
The entire plot was hatched in Dubai and Australia and there were two handlers who instructed the accused persons in Punjab.
Additional Director General of Police Inder Preet Singh Sahota, will head the State Government's special investigating team to look into the foreign angle. Prima facie it has been found that the incidents of sacrilege had been masterminded in the Faridkot case. The rest appear to be chain reactions to the Faridkot incident.
The special investigating team will question the two accused persons Rupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh who were in touch with handlers abroad. Incidentally the two are brothers.
The conversation with the handlers
Rupinder refers to a person called Aman and tells Jaswinder to arrange for a meeting. Jaswinder replies that this could lead to an exposure to which Rupinder says that the task is important as Aman has some pages on Maharaj. When Jaswinder tries to ask further, he is told to stop talking fearing that the intelligence agencies may be snooping in on the conversation.
The next conversation is between Rupinder and a caller from Australia. We cant come says the caller from Australia.
Rupinder tells him he fears that the material may get into the wrong hands and later instructs him to hand over his account number to the Singhs. The caller from Australia says he will deposit it into the account of Rupinder.
