Punjab’s ‘War Against Drugs’ Targets Full Drug-Free Status By May 31

As part of the state's "War Against Drugs" campaign, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav has issued a strict edict, telling all Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) to make sure their districts are totally drug-free by May 31, 2025. In order to address the drug problem in their respective areas, the officers have been instructed to submit comprehensive action plans detailing their plans to police headquarters.

DGP Yadav has underlined that each SSP must assume personal responsibility for purging their region of narcotics as part of the state's ambitious "Nasha Mukt Punjab" (Drug-Free Punjab) effort, which is a component of the larger "Yudh Nashe De Virudh" (War Against narcotics) campaign. Clear measures for breaking up local drug networks and reducing drug-related activity must be outlined in the action plans. The police headquarters will assess these plans.

The DGP also made it apparent that there will be severe disciplinary action taken for any infractions or fails to carry out the action plans by the deadline. The officials involved will be held personally liable and subject to repercussions if drug-related actions continue over the deadline.

As part of the Punjab government's stepped-up efforts to combat the drug problem, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has reaffirmed the state's resolve to making Punjab drug-free within the allotted time.
