Punjab Police Officers Charged with Torture and Forced Sodomy on Lawyer
A Superintendent of Police along with five other policemen were booked for allegedly subjecting a lawyer to torture, including forced sodomy, while he was under their custody. This incident has sparked outrage among legal professionals who are now abstaining from work indefinitely.
The legal fraternity in Punjab is up in arms following allegations of police brutality against a lawyer, which has led to the registration of an FIR against six policemen including a superintendent of police. The incident occurred in the Muktsar district and as per the FIR, the accused officers are alleged to have subjected their captive to torture and forced sodomy with another detainee.
Allegations Against Police

The case was registered based on complaints made by lawyers affiliated with the Bar Association of Punjab and Haryana High Court. They have resolved to abstain from work indefinitely from Tuesday as a mark of solidarity with their colleague. Their demands include dismissal and arrest of the erring policemen involved in this shocking incident. The advocate along with another man were arrested on September 14 after being accused by Crime Investigation Agency In-charge Raman Kumar Kamboj for assaulting a police team and tearing their uniforms.
Disturbing Details Of Custodial Abuse
As per allegations, while under custody, these men were coerced into performing sexual acts. This disturbing detail has added fuel to fire, causing outrage among legal professionals and raising questions about law enforcement ethics within the region.
Policemen Booked
The FIR was lodged against Superintendent Muktsar SP Investigation Ramandeep Singh Bhullar, Inspector Raman Kumar Kamboj, constables Harbans Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Gurpreet Singh; along with home guard Dara Singh on Monday. This development came after orders from Muktsar Chief Judicial Magistrate who had directed police to register a case against these officers based on the statement given by the victimized advocate alleging horrific treatment meted out during his time in custody.
Legal Fraternity's Response
In response to this shocking incident, the Bar Association of Punjab and Haryana High Court has expressed their solidarity with the victimized advocate by deciding to abstain from work indefinitely. They demand justice for their colleague and punitive action against the erring police officers, including dismissal and arrest.
