In a significant step towards safeguarding children from sexual violence, the Punjab Police has launched an initiative called Jagriti. This initiative specifically targets children between the ages of 5 and 12 years, aiming to create awareness and provide protection against such heinous crimes.

Jagriti Initiative: Empowering Police Personnel as Master Trainers
The Jagriti initiative was officially launched by the community affairs division and women affairs wing of the Punjab Police. As part of the program, 180 Punjab Police personnel underwent comprehensive training at the Punjab Police Officers Institute. These sessions focused on child sexual abuse, preventive measures, and legal provisions to combat such offenses.
Creating Awareness Among Students, Teachers, and Staff
Special DGP, Community Affairs Division and Women Affairs Wing, Gurpreet Kaur Deo, highlighted the importance of creating awareness among students, teachers, principals, and ancillary staff, including peons and drivers. The trained police personnel will serve as master trainers in their respective districts, disseminating knowledge and raising awareness about child sexual abuse.
Shakti Help Desks: A Safe Haven for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens
The Punjab Police has established Shakti Help Desks across state police stations, exclusively dedicated to providing assistance to women, children, and senior citizens. These help desks will play a crucial role in implementing the Jagriti initiative. The women police personnel associated with these desks will visit government and private schools within their jurisdiction, distributing study material on child sexual abuse and conducting awareness sessions.
Jagriti Program to be Implemented on International Women's Day
The Jagriti program will be put into action by Shakti Help Desks women officials from March 8, 2024, coinciding with International Women's Day. This initiative reflects the Punjab Police's unwavering commitment to ensuring the well-being of children and creating a safer environment through informed and empowered law enforcement officials.
