Punjab Police Files FIR Against Capital TV, Owner For Comparing MP Raghav Chadha With Vijay Mallya

For spreading false information and defaming Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament Raghav Chadha, Punjab police on Monday filed an FIR against a YouTube Channel and its owner. According to the reports, the action was taken against 'Capital TV' following a complaint by Vikas Prashar, son of AAP Ludhiana Lok Sabha candidate, Ashok Pappi Prashar. Allegedly, Capital TV, in a video, compared MP Raghav Chadha with fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya and used defamatory and misleading content.

A copy of the complaint letter, doing round the internet, reads, "The statements/contents of false videos on Capital TV channel and others shall harm the public peace and harmony...and is likely to promote enmity between different groups in the country on grounds of religion, caste, race, and community."

FIR Against Capital TV For False News

Reportedly, the viral video said, "Vijay Mallya fled to the UK after taking public money, and similarly, a Rajya Sabha member left for England, claiming it was for eye treatment", after which, Aam Aadmi Party raised objection and demanded strict action against the owner of the YouTube channel.

In a similar incident, the Delhi police has also lodged an FIR against unidentified miscreants for sharing doctored video of Union Minister Amit Shah. In the viral video, Amit Shah can be heard advocating the abolition of reservation quotas for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs), if they voted back to power. However, the Union Minister and BJP termed the video as false and altered to misrepresent the saffron party and its leader's stand on sensitive issues like reservation.
