Punjab's Mission Hoshiyar Launched in Hoshiarpur to Combat Drug Menace with Community Support
The Hoshiarpur police and civil administration have initiated a mission named Hoshiyar Alert to tackle the drug problem in the district. This effort, launched on Tuesday, aims to eradicate drugs through the combined efforts of local panchayats and villagers, according to an official statement. The event was attended by over 700 representatives from nearly 300 panchayats.

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Surendra Lamba assured attendees that any drug-related information shared with authorities would remain confidential. They promised swift action against offenders. The SSP encouraged residents to report drug-related issues using dedicated helplines. He noted that this initiative is a directive from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav to promote public involvement in addressing drug problems.
Role of Panchayats in Drug Eradication
Member of Parliament Raj Kumar Chabbewal highlighted the crucial role of panchayats in combating drug abuse and encouraging sports among youth. He stressed the importance of vigilance in disrupting the drug supply chain while ensuring rehabilitation support for addicts. MLA Bram Shanker Jimpa echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that panchayats can significantly contribute to eliminating the drug menace.
Jimpa also mentioned that individuals involved in drug peddling or smuggling should not receive any assistance in villages, serving as a deterrent for others. Deputy Commissioner Mittal pointed out the availability of a modern rehabilitation center in Hoshiarpur to support addicts seeking recovery.
The initiative underscores the importance of community involvement in tackling drug-related issues. By engaging local leaders and residents, authorities aim to create a robust network for reporting and addressing drug problems effectively. The mission seeks not only to curb drug abuse but also to foster a healthier environment for future generations.
This comprehensive approach involves collaboration between government officials, law enforcement, and community members. It highlights the need for collective action to address the complex issue of drug abuse, ensuring a safer and healthier society for all residents.
