Punjab Launches 'Roshan Punjab' Scheme to Ensure 24-Hour Electricity

Punjab is poised to overcome long-standing power shortages as Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann launches the "Roshan Punjab" scheme, promising uninterrupted and affordable electricity across the state by next year. The initiative aims to light up every home, farm, and industry in Punjab.

The government has invested ₹5,000 crore, the largest allocation in the state's power sector history, to strengthen the electricity system and ensure seamless supply to every village and city.

Chief Minister Mann emphasized that the scheme will boost development and public confidence. "No factory will stop due to power issues, and no household or farm will remain in darkness. Every home will have 24-hour electricity at affordable rates," he said.

Project Implementation and Oversight
The project is overseen by Power Minister Sanjeev Arora, while PSPCL Chairman Ajay Kumar Sinha and his team are working around the clock to deliver power to all corners of the state. Long-term coal supply from Pachhwara mine has been secured, and control of the GVK Thermal Plant has been brought under state management to ensure reliable electricity production.

New substations are being built, existing ones upgraded, and transmission lines replaced to improve voltage stability, reduce power cuts, and speed up restoration during outages.

Urban Upgrades and Public Services
In 13 municipal corporations, non-electric wires are being removed, hanging lines repaired, and open meter boxes secured to enhance safety and cleanliness. A new call center in Mohali with 180 seats will strengthen the 1912 helpline, enabling faster resolution of public complaints.

The Roshan Punjab scheme promises a reliable, affordable, and continuous power supply, marking a major step toward a brighter and more prosperous future for Punjab. Chief Minister Mann described the initiative as not just about electricity but as a foundation for a "truly illuminated Punjab," benefiting every home, farm, and industry in the state.
