Punjab Police Uncovers Illegal Call Centre in Mohali, Arrests Eight for Rs 50 Crore Fraud
Punjab Police have dismantled an illegal call centre in Mohali, which allegedly swindled approximately Rs 50 crore through online scams. Eight individuals, including a woman, have been apprehended in connection with this case.

The operation was uncovered after police received information about the call centre's activities in a flat at Eden Court Society, Sector 91, Mohali. Acting on this tip-off, officers conducted a raid and arrested the suspects involved.
Fraudulent Scheme Uncovered
The accused operated a fake call centre that sent alarming messages to people. These messages falsely claimed that recipients had purchased cryptocurrency and that their bank accounts would be debited. A contact number was provided for assistance.
Victims who called the number were deceived by fraudsters posing as officials. They were manipulated into revealing personal and banking details and coerced into transferring money via gift cards, e-vouchers, or direct bank transfers.
Ongoing Investigation and Seizures
This illegal operation had been active for six months, with preliminary investigations estimating the fraud amount at around Rs 50 crore. Police are continuing efforts to identify other accomplices and trace financial connections.
During the raid, authorities seized 12 laptops used for fraudulent activities, 14 mobile phones for victim communication, and a car. These items are crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The police are committed to uncovering all aspects of this scam. They aim to bring all involved parties to justice while working diligently to recover the defrauded funds.
