Punjab and Haryana Political Leaders Express Condolences for Manmohan Singh's Passing
Political figures from various parties expressed their condolences on Thursday night following the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away at 92. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, announced his death after he was admitted to the Emergency ward around 8:30 PM due to a sudden loss of consciousness.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini highlighted Manmohan Singh's significant role in India's development. "Manmohan Singh's contribution to the country's progress will always be unforgettable," he stated. Saini also praised Singh's simplicity and expressed his hope for peace for the departed soul and strength for his family during this challenging time.
Tributes from Political Leaders
Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda described Manmohan Singh as a distinguished economist and a pioneer of economic reforms in India. Hooda shared his sorrow over Singh's passing, calling it an irreparable loss. "I am saddened by the news of the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, a great economist of the world, a pioneer of economic reforms in India and one who, through his work, took the country forward on the path of progress and gave it a distinct identity across the world," Hooda posted on X.
Punjab Finance Minister and AAP leader Harpal Singh Cheema expressed deep sadness over Singh's death. He acknowledged Singh as a visionary economist and statesman whose contributions to India's growth and global standing will be remembered. "May Waheguru Ji grant peace to his soul and strength to his family #Manmohan," Cheema wrote on X.
Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister O P Soni also mourned Manmohan Singh's passing, noting India's loss of a great leader. Soni recalled Singh's affection for Amritsar and Punjab, emphasising that Punjab would particularly feel this loss.
Remembering a Humble Leader
Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa described Manmohan Singh as one of India's most humble and dignified leaders. Bajwa praised Singh's leadership during significant challenges, highlighting his commitment to civil discourse and democratic values. "Rest in peace, Sir. The nation mourns the loss of a true statesman and a gentle giant of Indian politics," Bajwa posted on X.
Congress Sirsa MP Kumari Selja called Manmohan Singh's demise an irreparable loss for the entire country. She likened it to losing an elder and guide within her family. Selja noted that under Singh's leadership, India embarked on liberalisation, globalisation, and economic development, benefiting millions of Indians.
Selja further mentioned her privilege in working with him, learning from his simplicity, patience, and selfless service. She stated that these qualities would continue to inspire her while acknowledging his lasting impact on India.
A Lasting Legacy
Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala paid tribute to Manmohan Singh as a gentleman politician embodying probity and simplicity. Surjewala expressed gratitude for Singh's guidance in politics and economic matters. "Dr. Manmohan Singh will be deeply missed by every Congressperson and every Indian for his wisdom, understanding and foresight," Surjewala posted on X.
Surjewala emphasised that Singh's dedication to the ideological principles of the Indian National Congress would remain etched in their hearts. His resolve for these principles continues to inspire many within the party.
The nation mourns the loss of Manmohan Singh, recognising his invaluable contributions as an economist and leader who shaped India's path towards progress. His legacy will endure through the countless lives he touched with his wisdom and leadership.
