Punjab: CM sanctions Rs 65 crore to immediate family of farmer suicide

Chandigarh, Feb 19: Prakash Singh Badal, the chief minister of Punjab sanctioned Rs 65 crore as financial grant for the immediate kith and kin of the farmers and farm labours who committed suicide due to economic distress in the past few years.

The Chief Minister has already directed the revenue department to issue instructions to all the Deputy Commissioners to disburse the promptly to the affected families.

He also asked the department to be alert of any such situation in the future. Apart from the Rs 2 Lakh financial assistance that the government was extending to such families, it has already released Rs 31 crore, totalling Rs 96 crore. Till now, RS 96 crore has been disbursed to 4,800 families.
