Punjab Bus Accident: 7 Devotees Killed, 21 Injured As Bus Overturns Near Bassi Pathana

In the latest development, a tragic road accident took place in Punjab's Fatehgarh Sahib district claimed at least seven lives and left 21 others injured on Wednesday after a bus carrying devotees overturned near Bassi Pathana.

The incident created panic in the area, with locals rushing to help victims before emergency teams arrived.

Bus Carrying Devotees Meets With Accident

According to initial reports, around 30 to 35 passengers were travelling in the bus at the time of the accident. The devotees were returning after offering prayers at Fatehgarh Sahib when the mishap occurred.

Eyewitnesses said the bus suddenly lost control and overturned on the road, causing multiple casualties and serious injuries.

Casualties and Injured

Seven people lost their lives in the accident, including the bus driver and the granthi (religious caretaker) of Main Majri Gurudwara Sahib. Among the deceased were two women and several residents from nearby villages.

The victims have been identified as Iqbal Singh, Ranjeet Kaur, Pradeep Kaur, Jagwinder Singh, Lakhvir Singh, Harvir Dhami, and Kulwinder Singh.

At least 21 others were injured and have been admitted to nearby hospitals, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Locals and Authorities Rush for Rescue

Soon after the accident, local residents reached the spot and began rescue efforts. Police and emergency teams arrived shortly after and took charge of the situation.

The injured were quickly shifted to hospitals to ensure timely medical care.

Officials said that a technical fault in the bus may have caused the accident. According to police, the driver possibly lost control due to the fault, leading to the vehicle overturning.
Some eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud noise just before the accident, which could indicate a mechanical failure such as a broken axle.

However, authorities have said that the exact cause will be confirmed only after a detailed investigation.

Leaders Express Grief

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the families of the victims. He also wished a speedy recovery for those injured.

Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu also called the accident "heart-wrenching" and prayed for strength for the bereaved families.
