Punjab's Bhagwant Mann Govt Strengthens Law and Order with Operation Prahar-2

Chandigarh, February 9, 2026 - Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has intensified his government's fight against organized crime and drug trafficking through Operation Prahar-2, a large-scale, 72-hour special drive across the state. The campaign, led by DGP Gaurav Yadav, has already resulted in 17,603 raids and 5,290 arrests, sending shockwaves through criminal networks.

Under the Chief Minister's direct supervision, Punjab Police have deployed high-tech checkposts, sealed sensitive areas, and carried out continuous raids on suspected gang hideouts. The operation focuses on both gangsters and drug mafias, aiming to dismantle decades-old criminal networks that flourished under previous governments.

This follows the success of Operation Prahar-1 in January 2026, during which 3,256 arrests were made, 69 illegal firearms recovered, and encounters with gang members in Patiala and Fazilka sent a strong message to criminals. Operation Prahar-2 has already surpassed these figures, targeting high-priority offenders and coordinating action across all districts.

In parallel, the anti-drug campaign 'Yudh Nasha Virudh' continues to yield results. Since March 2025, authorities have arrested 48,167 drug traffickers, seized 2,149 kilograms of heroin, and confiscated over ₹15.9 crore in illicit drug money. With 33,779 FIRs registered, Punjab's approach emphasizes ground-level enforcement over statistics, ensuring tangible results in curbing crime.

Chief Minister Mann emphasized that no individual will be allowed to fall prey to drugs or gangsterism, and encouraged citizens to report criminal activity confidentially via helpline 93946-93946. The state's zero-tolerance approach has already instilled fear among criminals and confidence among the public, marking a decisive shift in Punjab's law-and-order landscape.

Operation Prahar-2 demonstrates that the AAP government is not only reacting to crime but proactively preventing it, setting the tone for a safer, crime-free future in Punjab.
