Teen Driver Who Killed 2 In Pune Fatal Crash Granted Bail With Unique Conditions
A 17-year-old involved in a fatal accident in Pune has been granted bail under unique conditions by the Juvenile Justice Board, including writing an essay on road accidents and assisting an RTO officer.
In a notable decision by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) in Pune, a 17-year-old boy involved in a tragic accident while driving a Porsche has been granted bail. This incident, which resulted in the loss of two lives, occurred when the teenager's vehicle collided with a motorcycle in the Kalyani Nagar area in Pune.
The car reportedly dragged one of the victims before coming to a halt after hitting another motorcycle and a car.

The JJB, while allowing bail, set forth conditions aimed at both rehabilitation and education. The teenager, identified as the son of a prominent Pune builder, is required to submit a 300-word essay on road accidents. This task necessitates visiting the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to study traffic rules comprehensively. Further, the juvenile has been instructed to assist an RTO officer for 15 days and then report the learnings back to the JJB.
Additional conditions include mandatory visits to a de-addiction counselling centre and consultations with a psychologist and psychiatric doctor at Sassoon Hospital, with findings to be reported within 15 days. The boy's parents are tasked with ensuring he stays away from negative influences and remains present for all required JJB appearances.
The legal proceedings stem from the juvenile's rash and negligent driving, leading to charges under sections 304A, 279, 337, and 338 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Act. Notably, he also faces charges under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC, indicating he might be tried as an adult.
Following the accident, the juvenile's father and the pub accused of serving alcohol to the minor were also booked by the police. The teenager's legal representation and family have assured the JJB of his commitment to education and rehabilitation, away from any harmful influences.
This case has highlighted the broader issue of juvenile delinquency and the legal system's approach to handling young offenders. By imposing conditions focused on education and rehabilitation, the JJB aims to prevent future offenses and encourage responsible behavior among young individuals.
