Ajit Pawar Calls for Stringent Action Against Culprits of Pune Car Crash

In a recent statement, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar emphasized the need for stringent action in the Pune car crash case, where a 17-year-old accused caused the death of two software engineers. The incident, involving a Porsche allegedly driven by the intoxicated teenager, occurred in the Kalyani Nagar area. Following the event, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) initially granted bail to the accused, asking him to pen a 300-word essay. However, amidst public outcry and a review plea by the police, the JJB has now remanded the teenager, son of real estate developer Vishal Agarwal, to an observation home until June 5.

Pune Crash: Pawar Demands Action

Pawar highlighted the importance of conducting the investigation without any political interference, asserting that the incident was grave and warranted serious action against those found culpable. He reassured that he has been in regular contact with Pune police for updates and confirmed that there has been no political meddling in the ongoing investigation. Additionally, Pawar mentioned that measures against illegal pubs and bars in Pune are being enforced.

On another front, Congress leader and Kasba MLA Ravindra Dhangekar has called for a retired judge to lead the probe into this case. Dhangekar expressed concerns over Pune's rising pub culture adversely affecting its youth and disturbing the peace of what is known as an educational hub. He also protested outside the police commissioner's office, demanding suspension of the investigating officer in the Kalyani Nagar accident and filing a police case against him.

The tragic incident has sparked a broader debate on underage drinking, driving safety, and nightlife regulation in Pune. With leaders from different political spectrums voicing their concerns and suggesting measures, it is clear that the city is at a crossroads, seeking to balance its vibrant culture with safety and law enforcement.
