Puducherry: Govt Approves 10 Percent Reservation For Govt. School Students To Pursue Medical Science

According to Chief Minister N Rangasamy, 37 eligible students can avail 37 reserved seats in MBBS in the current academic year. The CM has also advised government school teachers to equip more students based on the merit list so that the deserving students would be benefitted with the reserved seats.

The decision of reservation was taken so that the underprivileged meritorious students of the rural areas who have qualified NEET would pursue graduation without opting for private coaching.

Meanwhile, AINRC MLAs led by PWD Minister K Lakshminarayanan appreciated CM Rangasamy for such a great initiative, and expressed gratitude to L-G for supporting the cabinet decision. They also vowed the central government for approving it.

The minister while praising the CM for fulfilling the dreams of all the underprivileged students to achieve their goals said CM Rangasamy has been working hard for last 20 years to enrich the students of the rural areas to pursue their dreams.

He further said that the CM has made Puducherry a hub of education by introducing the breakfast scheme for school students, financial assistance for higher education. He was quoted saying as, "Rangasamy has always provided a higher allocation for education in his budgets - 11 to 12 percent, way higher than the Kothari Commission recommended 7 percent.

He further added that CM's continuous discussion with Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya for the implementation of the reservation has led to its materialisation which the previous government failed due to differences with the then L-G.
