Public Is With Us: Delhi CM Kejriwal As Satyendar Jain's Health Deteriorates

Former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain on Monday was taken to the Safdarjung Hospital after he complained of deterioration in health.

Since his arrest in May 2022, he has been lodged at Tihar Jail in Delhi.

As he was rushed to the hospital, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal prayed to God for his recovery. "I pray to God for the better health of Satyendar Jain ji. The people of Delhi and the country are watching this arrogance and oppression of the BJP government very well. Even God will never forgive these oppressors. The public is with us in this struggle, God is with us, we are the disciples of Sardar Bhagat Singh. Our fight against oppression, injustice and dictatorship will continue," he said on Twitter.

Responding to the latest development, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Saket Gokhale slammed the BJP and said, "This is very heartbreaking. Modi govt unleashes central agencies on Opposition leaders to either get them to join the BJP or break them completely. As someone who has been through this, I know what they're doing to @SatyendarJain. This is criminal vendetta."

Jain was taken to the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital on Saturday. However, he wanted a second opinion, hence he was admitted to the Safdarjung Hospital, PTI reported citing a senior jail official.

"Jain visited the neurosurgery OPD in the morning and after being examined by the doctors there, he left. He was accompanied by police," said a spokesperson of the Safdarjung Hospital.

It may be recalled that senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for Jain, told the Supreme Court recently that the former minister had lost 35 kg and virtually became a skeleton.

Based on a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the CBI on August 24, 2017, the ED initiated the investigation into the money laundering case.

The CBI alleged that Jain, while holding the office as a Minister in the Government of Delhi from February 14, 2015, to May 31, 2017, had acquired assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Last week, the Supreme Court issued notice to Enforcement Directorate Jain's plea seeking bail in the said case. However, it also granted him the liberty to move the vacation bench of the top court with his plea, which challenged the Delhi High Court order dismissing his bail plea.
