Public Have Lost Faith In Biren Singh Govt: 9 BJP MLAs Write To PM Over Manipur Violence
Nine BJP MLAs from Manipur have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that the people of the state have lost faith in the N Biren Singh-led government, India Today reported.
They claim that there is a complete breakdown of law and order in the state and all sections of society have been affected by this development. Every community, every person, irrespective of caste, creed and religion, wants immediate restoration of peace in Manpur, the BJP MLAs said.

"At present, there is no trust and confidence in the government and administration. Public have lost complete faith in the present state government. Some special measures for proper administration and function of the government by following Rule of Law may kindly be resorted to so that the trust and confidence of the general public is restored," they said in the memorandum.
Karam Shyam Singh, Th Radheshyam Singh, Nishikant Sing Sapam, Kh Raghumani Singh, S Brojen Singh, T Robindro Singh, S Rajen Singh, S Kebi Devi, and Dr Y Radheshyam are the MLAs who have lashed out at their own government over the violence in Manipur that started on May 3. It has to be noted that they all belong to the Meitei community.
More than 100 people have lost their lives in the violence between Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur that broke out over a month ago.
On asking whether they wanted a change in the guard, one of the leaders said that the memorandum expressed the feeling of the general public. "What is happening in Manipur shows people have no faith in elected members. Why are houses of ministers and MLAs being targeted? The feeling of the people, not our feelings, have been articulated in the memorandum," Telegraph India quoted the MLA as saying.
Days ago, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, had said the law-and-order condition had "totally" failed although the Centre has sent a lot of security forces to Manipur
Clashes erupted after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
Meiteis account for about 53 per cent of Manipur's population and live mostly in the Imphal Valley. Tribals - Nagas and Kukis - constitute another 40 per cent of the population and reside in the hill districts.
