Provide paid holiday to workers on May 16: TN Govt
Chennai, Apr 7: Workers in the unorganised sector, including those engaged in construction, should be given paid holiday on May 16, the day of polling in Tamil Nadu, the state government said today.

Unorganised sector workers, including those in the field of construction, should be granted holiday with wages by employers on May 16, Commissioner of Labour, P Amudha said in an official release.

Quoting provisions of the Representation of the People Act and instructions of Election Commission, she said it was to enable them to exercise their franchise.
"Regular one day wages should be paid and this should not be less than the minimum wages fixed by the government for the respective employment," she said.
